A social media post from Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord states students and staff are safe but Ecole secondaire catholique Algonquin "is in lockdown mode for safety following a police service directive in connection with an ongoing situation in the Cedar Street area at Morin and McLeod Street. Police are dealing with an active situation in a residential area. Students and staff are safe.
"Please note that École secondaire catholique Algonquin is in Hold and Secure as police has advised there is a public safety concern in the area of Cedar Street at Morin Street and McLeod Street. Police are dealing with an active situation at a residence in the area."
At 9:20 a.m., the North Bay Police Service tweeted a public safety warning for a location near the school.
