We are getting reports of a traffic accident on Algonquin Ave. across from the medial building around 2:15 p.m. involving a couple of elderly pedestrians.
Doreen Hummel of Doreen's Hair Styling witnessed the accident.
She says the couple were crossing from a parking lot towards the medical building when they were struck by a car heading north in the inside lane on Algonquin towards the bypass.
"It was sad," she told BayToday. "It was almost like slow motion. An elderly man and lady were dodging between vehicles to get to the medical centre. The poor kid (driver) wasn't going that quickly. It's bad."
"The lady was on the left side and the man on the right. She was hit by the vehicle first and the man fell on top of her. The lady did not move."
Hummel says the man was sitting on the road and coherent.
"The young man was driving towards my shop and they ran right out in front of him. I don't understand that."
Police say the woman is at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, but her condition is unknown. The man is in North Bay Regional in stable condition.
The hairdresser says she sees between 80-100 people trying to cross the road at that point every day dodging traffic.
"Those are big pieces of equipment that can't stop on a dime. They need to do something soon."
Algonquin is closed between Lansdowne and Elmwood.
