It seemed like a scene out of a movie as Mayor Al McDonald alongside his colleague George Burton ripped into the Aviation Centre hangar at Canadore College in a beautiful Aston Martin luxury sports car just like as if it was a scene from a James Bond movie.

Well, that was the introduction for a unique James Bond themed Casino Royale Fundraiser with the proceeds going towards the North Bay Food Bank, the Canadore College Emergency Student Food Bank and Creative Industries that was announced this morning.

“We all share in the responsibility to help others and this is what this community group has done is come together to make a difference in everyone’s lives and create a better atmosphere and build our community on the Arts and Culture side so it’s fun that we get to dress up in tuxedo’s and donate our hard earned money like so many others do to worthy causes,” stated Mayor Al McDonald sporting a tuxedo of his own.

"The Mayor has a personal affinity towards James Bond so as this is the Mayor’s Casino Royale, we thought why not use something that the Mayor has a great personal attraction to,” said Mark Deacon, one of the event organizers crediting the Mayor's partner Wendy Abdallah as the one who came up with the idea for the Bond themed event concept.

The event will take place on September 16th at the Aviation Hangar, and the cost for a ticket will be $125.00.  Organizers will be printing 300 tickets on a first come first serve basis with the goal of raising $100,000 to be split amongst the three charities.

“What they are going to transform is really a movie set from James Bond so it is going to be a fun night,” said McDonald.

Event organizers are also bringing in a professional casino operator for the event which will include great local food and a few celebrity surprises that they are holding back on announcing right now.

“Some of the surprises will blow your mind,” hinted Canadore President George Burton.

McDonald also mentioned to the media that the Casino Royale event does not have any connection to the potential OLG casino that could potentially break ground in North Bay soon.

The gala event is open up to the public and you must be at least 18 years old to attend.

Tickets can be purchased online through can be picked up at the Canadore College Alumni/Foundation Office, City of North Bay’s office of the Mayor, and the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce.
