Over 500 persons attended Tom Davies Square in Sudbury on
Sunday afternoon to rally against proposed jobs cuts at CBC Northeast radio station in Sudbury. The current staff of 13 is expected to be reduced by 8 persons and Northern Ontario programming is expected to be lost as a result.
By comparison the CBC head office in Toronto has not yet been told of any cuts to Toronto operations.

MP for Nipissing Temiscaming Anthony Rota and City Councilor Chris Mayne both attended with the message that a strong regional public broadcaster is important for Northern Ontario.

Councilor Mayne commented "We are fortunate in North Bay to have excellent community minded radio stations in our own city but at the same time a regional public broadcaster like the CBC has over the years been an
important voice for Northern Ontario and has bound Northern Ontario communities together with a strong sense of identity."

"If the current cuts are carried out, Northern Ontario programming will be lost and an important voice that speaks for so many of us in Northern Ontario will be lost."
