The North Bay and District Labour Council plans to mix fun, food and federal politics this long weekend as the organization celebrates its 14th annual picnic.

It will also use it as the lead-up to October’s election.

Using the slogan, a "Fair Canada for Everyone" workers, unions, and community leaders will gather at the North Bay waterfront on September 2 at 11 a.m. to celebrate the contributions of working people and to highlight ballot box issues.

“In this election, we’re asking voters to aspire to more,” said Henri Giroux, Labour Council President. “This is about upholding values like fairness and equality.”

Canada’s unions are calling on voters to support candidates who will support ideas like universal pharmacare and retirement security, and who will prioritize good jobs, a clean environment, and equity and inclusion.

“It’s so easy to give into politics of fear and division, and that’s why we’re seeing so many politicians stoop to that level in their campaigns,” said Giroux. “We know that people in Canada are better than that, so we’re asking them to demand fairness for everyone in this next federal election.”
