This Friday, December 1, East Ferris’ Memorial Park in Corbeil is the place to be for the annual Light Up the Park event. The trees will be lit, carols will be heard, and the fire department will be tending a bonfire.
There will also be an arts and craft sale this year at the KRMT Wellness Studio at 5 Champagne Road in Corbeil. You can stroll there from the park. The space will host many local vendors to help you start checking off your Christmas list. You can pick up a warm beverage there as well, courtesy of the folks at the Lucky 13.
The event runs from 6 to 7 p.m., but the KRMT market is open until 8 p.m. The weather looks like it will cooperate, with a high of -4, a slight chance of snow, with a mild breeze at times.
This year, a very special tree will also be lit for the season – the Michel Voyer Tree of Lights. Voyer was much loved within the community, Mayor Pauline Rochefort explained, and he served four terms on council, and was the Deputy Mayor for a time.
He passed away in 2020, one day before Christmas.
“He was active until the very last minute,” Mayor Rochefort said, and he “played a key role in the location of the new municipal office building, which is why when we opened the new office, we said that as part of our dedicating ceremony, we will place a commemorative tree in the park for Michel Voyer.”

When the office opened, the municipality also handed out “little trees, seedlings,” to residents and visitors. Once the spring thaws, the municipality will install a plaque near the tree as well.
