To the editor:
The City of North Bay is great. We have raised our children here and we consider ourselves lucky to be residents.
Last April, our vehicle, as well as another vehicle, was accidentally damaged by a moving street sweeper while exiting a parking lot. This accident has exposed a complete lack of accountability by our municipal government.
The subcontractor’s only communication with us was an email in which they denied all responsibility. They ignored all following communications despite receiving 3 witness statements and pictures of 2 damaged vehicles.
We therefore communicated with the City of North Bay’s city solicitor requesting assistance regarding this subcontractor. Our three messages were ignored.
We therefore filed a complaint with the City of North Bay. We received an answer that my concern would be directed to the proper department. After receiving no communication, we reached out again a month later. We then received a call from a solicitor hired by the City of North Bay informing us that we would receive no communication from the City of North Bay because it was not their responsibility.
The city of North Bay refuses to communicate with us. The subcontractor they chose refuses to communicate with us. Our Public Works department needs to be more accountable.
Who is responsible for the damage? The contractor or the city of North Bay. Nobody wants to help and nobody will accept responsibility!
