LETTER: Ontario's handling of bike lanes a waste of time and money

It just seems like such a colossal waste of money - money that could be spent on issues affecting the whole province, such as housing and healthcare. Cycling advocates are inevitably going to push to get those lanes back

Editor's note: Ms. Franklin writes in response to Province's new bike lane restrictions concern local cycling advocates.

To the editor:

I grew up in North Bay and now live in Toronto, and I was interested to see that your readers largely support the province's attempt to restrict the construction of new bike lanes (see poll, Oct. 20).

I wondered, however, what readers would think about the province's plan to spend millions of dollars in taxpayers' money to remove existing Toronto bike lanes, which cost the city millions to build.

It just seems like such a colossal waste of money - money that could be spent on issues affecting the whole province, such as housing and healthcare. And cycling advocates are inevitably going to push to get those lanes back.

It's frankly a huge mess, and I think the rest of Ontario should be angry that our provincial government is wasting everyone's time and money in this way.
