Specialist – SP2 Program/Service Delivery
Salary Grade Band F
Qualified Level Salary Range: $54,650 – $60,724 – $66,796
Advanced Qualification Salary Range: $61,755 – $68,618 – $75,479
Position Objective:
The Mental Health Support Worker provides mental health services and support to all students of Kenjgewin Teg. This position works as part of the Student Wellness and Support Services Team, and will liaise with external resources, in support of student needs.
The Mental Health Support Worker assists individuals in locating and utilizing community resources including; housing, medical, addictions, mental health, counselling, family, parenting and cultural support. The Mental Health Support Worker will work towards building rapport with students, assist in navigating community resources, advocacy, encourage problem-solving, skill development, goal setting, and provide information and resources as necessary.
Qualifications:
- A minimum requirement is a post-secondary diploma from an accredited college in the human services field.
- Registration, in good standing, with a regulating professional body e.g. Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
- 5 years of experience within the mental health sector.
- Experience in a school setting is an asset.
- Mental Health First Aid Certification.
- First Aid Certification.
- SafeTALK Trained.
- ASIST Trained.
Job Skills and Knowledge:
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed care in relation to adult learners and Indigenous populations and experience in trauma-informed care and responses.
- Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and foster relationships with a diverse demographic of students.
- Demonstrates team building, team planning, facilitation, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Administrative skills, including scheduling, records management, completing annual work plans, completing quarterly reports, and supporting operational planning and policy development when called upon.
- Strong computer skills (e.g. email, internet, word, excel and data management), including the ability to learn other software programs, as deployed by Kenjgewin Teg.
- Preference given to applicants demonstrating Anishinabek traditional knowledge; Kendmoowin – Anishnabemowin miinwaa Anishnaabe bmaadziwin.
