On July 30 the North Bay Police Service conducted an enhanced traffic enforcement initiative, which resulted in 38 charges being laid.

The enforcement initiative focused on areas of the city where police have received multiple traffic complaints, including Lakeshore Drive, Airport Road, Cassells Street, and Fisher Street. Provincial Offence Notices were issued for numerous violations including speeding, use of a cell phone while driving, and violations of the Safe Streets Act.

In addition, two people were arrested during the enforcement initiative.

A 48-year-old North Bay woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Failure or refusal to comply with a demand
  • Two charges of possession of a Schedule I substance
  • Possession of a Schedule II substance

Searches by police resulted in the seizure of:

  • Two methamphetamine tablets
  • One suspected pill
  • less than one-half-gram of suspected crystal methamphetamine

A 36-year-old North Bay woman was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants.

Police did not name either woman.

“While I am encouraged by the hard work of our members to keep our roadways and streets safe, I remain disappointed that so many motorists continue to violate basic traffic laws, putting themselves and others in danger,” said Inspector of Operations, Jeff Warner. “Everyone has a role to play to ensure traffic safety. All drivers need to do their part, follow the law, and remain vigilant.”

To enhance and streamline the process of providing traffic complaints to police, the North Bay Police Service maintains a dedicated e-mail address – [email protected] – so members of the public can send traffic complaints and information. The North Bay Police Service will use the information received via that e-mail to augment other intelligence gathered from the public and officers to conduct enhanced enforcement initiatives at trouble spots throughout the city.

Information about frequent traffic violations or other traffic complaints can be sent to the North Bay Police Service by e-mail via [email protected] or by calling the North Bay Police Service General line 705-497-5555.
