The North Bay Police Service has arrested a man after garbage bins and ashtrays were knocked over and damaged downtown this week,
A bystander who tried to stop the vandalism was assaulted.
Police say at 10 p.m. Wednesday they got a report of vandalism in the 100 block of Main Street East.
"A bystander in the area, who is the victim in this incident, confronted the accused," says a news release. "The accused threatened to fight the victim at which point the victim disengaged and began to walk away. The accused then threw a glass bottle at the victim, missing him."
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The damage is estimated to be less than $5,000. Police found the man in the area and he was arrested and charged.
The victim and accused are not known to each other.
Corey Daniel Joseph Turcotte, 37, of North Bay is charged with:
- Assault with a weapon
- Mischief under $5,000
- Fail to comply with a probation order
Turcotte was released on an undertaking and is set to appear before the court on November 19.
