Community Builders Awards: Honouring Edna Scott, the creative mind behind the waterfront carousel project

The first-ever Community Builders Award for the arts celebrates a beloved local artist for her contributions to North Bay

Edna Scott, a local self-taught artist, has made a remarkable impact on the North Bay community through her passion for the arts.

While she is known for her exquisite paintings of wildlife and gardens, Edna’s passion lies in the art of carousel horses.

Since the 1970s, Edna has collected antique carousel horses, some dating back to the late 1800s.

Edna channelled her passion toward community development as she designed and managed the North Bay waterfront carousel project.

Fostering a sense of community pride, Edna brought local artists and woodcarvers together to play a vital role in the creation and painting process.

The project soon became a larger community effort, with over 300 volunteers dedicating countless hours to bring the project to life.

The carousel has become a beloved local attraction, providing a creative experience for over 100,000 individuals annually.

Edna’s artistic contributions and passion for carousel art have not only beautified North Bay but have also brought the community together, creating a shared sense of achievement.

Beyond the carousel project, Edna actively participates in local art shows and exhibits, continuing to contribute to the arts community.

Her dedication, creativity, and commitment continue to inspire others in the North Bay area.

The Arts Award goes to an individual or group that has helped make the artistic community stronger. They have championed an individual, an event, an idea, an ethic, or philosophy.

Congratulations, Edna!

This award is proudly sponsored by Stradwicks Carpet One Floor & Home.
