According to the air quality measuring website AQI, which claims to measure the "100 Most Polluted Cities in The World" in real time, North Bay had the second worst pollution ranking on Earth yesterday.
North Bay still ranked tenth worst in the world as of 8:45 this morning (Monday). Nearby Sudbury was ninth. Much of the province has been affected by smoke from fires in Quebec and the northeastern part of the province and conditions aren't expected to improve for some areas until Tuesday night or Wednesday.
Air quality in the area as of Monday morning was at 287, which is considered unhealthy, with Environment Canada maintaining a "special air quality statement for North Bay - West Nipissing and Powassan- Mattawa.
'Very high levels of air pollution have developed due to smoke from forest fires. Smoke plumes from forest fires in Quebec and northeastern Ontario will continue to affect the area, resulting in deteriorated air quality," says the statement.
