SAULT STE. MARIE - Team Brad Jacobs will have a new member for the time being.
The Sochi Olympics gold-medal winners announced via social media on Wednesday afternoon that Ryan Fry is taking a leave from the team following events over the weekend in Red Deer that saw the Team Jacobs third kicked out of a World Curling Tour event where he was competing on a team with Jamie Koe.
In a statement posted by Fry to his Twitter account and reposted to the Team Jacobs Facebook page, Fry said in part, “Due to recent events, I have decided to take a leave from Team Jacobs. As hard as this is, I need to focus my full energy on my growth and self-improvement as this goes beyond last weekend’s events.”The Jacobs rink said in a post that, “we believe how Ryan is handling everything is a true reflection of his character.”
The manager of the venue where Fry was competing at the Red Deer Curling Classic called Fry's behaviour 'unacceptable', describing a drunken scene that included broken brooms, inappropriate language and minor damage to a locker room.
Team Jacobs said Fry will not be with the team for “at least” the next two events, but has not yet confirmed who will take his place.
