Parry Sound—Muskoka sees strong voter turnout, outpaces provincial average

Local participation was roughly 21 per cent higher than Ontario’s overall voter turnout rate.

Voter turnout surged in Parry Sound—Muskoka, with strong gains for both the Progressive Conservative and Green parties in Thursday’s provincial election.

Here are the 2025 unofficial numbers and the 2022 official numbers from Elections Ontario.

According to Elections Ontario, voter turnout in Parry Sound—Muskoka was notably higher than the provincial average, with 54.92 per cent of registered voters casting a ballot — 9.52 per cent more than the provincewide turnout of 45.4 per cent.

That means local participation was roughly 21 per cent higher than Ontario’s overall rate.

All 103 polling locations in the riding have reported their results to Elections Ontario. Of the 84,534 registered voters, an estimated 46,445 people cast a ballot. A small discrepancy of 23 votes may be due to missing, rejected or spoiled ballots.

2025 unofficial Ontario provincial election results in Parry Sound—Muskoka:

  Graydon Smith with the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario: 21,731 votes — or 46.8 per cent.

  Matt Richter with the Green Party of Ontario: 19,360 votes — or 41.7 per cent.

  David Innes with the Ontario Liberal Party: 2,822 votes — or 6.08 per cent.

  Jim Ronholm with the Ontario New Democratic Party: 1,329 votes — or 2.86 per cent.

  Brandon Nicksy with the New Blue Party of Ontario: 785 votes — or 1.69 per cent.

  Helen Kroeker with the Ontario Party: 403 votes — or 0.87 per cent.

Voter turnout in Parry Sound—Muskoka for the 2022 provincial election was 53.09 per cent, with 44,745 of the 84,280 registered voters casting a ballot.

Among those ballots, 187 were rejected, unmarked or declined, making up a small fraction of the total votes cast.

  Smith was elected as MPP with 20,216 votes.

  Richter received 18,102 votes.

  New Democratic Party’s Erin Horvath received 3,391 votes.

  The Liberal party’s candidate, Barry Stanley, was fired.

With the clear front-runners being the PCs and Greens in this riding, both candidates saw their support grow in 2025. Matt Richter of the Green Party gained 1,258 more votes than in 2022, while incumbent PC Graydon Smith saw an even larger boost, picking up 1,515 additional votes.

Parry Sound—Muskoka advance polls

Elections Ontario media relations co-ordinator Dave Pearce says official turnout results, including special ballots and mail-in, will be available early next week.

For advance polling in our region, voters cast 8,985 ballots from Feb. 20 to 22, which means 10.67 per cent of registered voters in Parry Sound—Muskoka cast their ballot ahead of the Feb. 27 election date. 

Overall turnout for advance polls province-wide was 6.14 per cent.

The percentage of registered voters in Parry Sound—Muskoka who voted during the advance polling period was the highest in Ontario, Pearce said, surpassing Huron-Bruce, which was second at 10.22 per cent.
