Loren Mick is the New Democratic Party’s candidate for the Nipissing riding.

If the name rings a bell, Mick currently serves on Mattawa’s municipal council, having done so since the fall 2022 election.

Mick was nominated to represent the provincial NDP on Wednesday, Jan. 29. Nipissing party members took part in a Zoom meeting at 7 p.m. to elect the candidate. He was the only nominee for the position.

The New Democrat joins the race to form Ontario’s next government. So far, there are two others vying to represent Nipissing riding. Colton Chaput is the Green Party Candidate, and incumbent Vic Fedeli is running for the Conservatives.

Mick was born and raised in Mattawa. He noted in his councillor biography on Mattawa’s municipal website that “I grew up in the woods along the Mattawa River. I travel every chance I get but always love returning home.”

Besides serving on council, Mick works as a chef, enjoys live music boating, and “I value peace, love, and fiscal responsibility.”

Mick also serves on various committees in his role as councillor, namely, Health Services, Social and Family Services, the Conservation Authority, and the Mattawa and Area Food Bank.

He lives in Mattawa.

The election is set for Thursday, Feb. 27.
