Voodoos make a pair of moves

The Powassan Voodoos added more experience between the pipes by acquiring 19-year-old Austin Seibel from the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior A hockey league, for a development fee, the club announced on Wednesday.

The Coldstream, B.C. product had a 2.16 goals against average and a .919 save percentage in 15 games last season with the Kings.

“When I found out the Voodoos were an option for me to go to, I was excited,” said Seibel.

“I’ve heard many great things about the organization as a whole and I am super happy to be a part of it.”

Peter Goulet, Voodoos head coach, felt Seibel was a good fit when he found out the experienced netminder became available.

“Austin had great stats last year as a back up goalie with Daulphin Kings in the MJHL and when the Kings starting goalie from last season decided to come back Austin was made available as the organization knew he needed to be a starting goalie,” said Goulet.

Seibel joined the Voodoos for his first practice with his new teammates on Wednesday morning. 

In another transaction, the Voodoos traded 2006 birth year forward Aleksander Duguay to the Espanola Paper Kings for a development fee. 

The Sudbury product had played in two of the first four regular season games for the Voodoos prior to the trade. 

Seibel and the Voodoos are looking to break out of a two-game losing streak (1-3) as they host the French River Rapids on Saturday night at the Powassan Sportsplex.  Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
