HEARST — It was a memorable first day on the job for an OPP officer.
While on a routine foot patrol around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 26 in downtown Hearst, a concerned resident alerted James Bay OPP officers to a distressed cat on a high roof on Edward Street.
"A crowd quickly gathered as the cat, audibly in distress, attempted to avoid swooping ravens," reads the OPP news release.
Police coordinated with the Town of Hearst, who swiftly sent municipal workers with a bucket truck to the scene.
"They raised the bucket to the peak of the roof, where the frightened cat wasted no time jumping to safety," said police.
"A new recruit OPP officer started her first shift in Hearst today, an unforgettable way to begin her career, seeing firsthand the strong partnership between police and the community."
