VIDEO: It's no lie — The Trews to headline Bay Block Party

The Capitol Centre — which officially began the transition to take the reins of the popular event from the North Bay and Area Realtors Association in January — today announced the headliners for August's Bay Block Party

North Bay Mayor Peter Chirico joined Capitol Centre Executive Director Katina Connolly on Monday morning at the WKP Kennedy Gallery to announce Canadian rock band The Trews as the headliners for this August's Bay Block Party and to provide some more details about the popular late-summer community event held annually on Main Street (see video above).

In January, it was revealed the Capitol Centre would be taking over from the North Bay & Area REALTORS Association to run the event after NBARA had a successful run at the helm since the Bay Block Party's inception in 2017.

This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 23.

NBARA’s president, Anita Kapitanchuck said in a news release, “We’ve had the honour of hosting this incredible community event since 2017, and while it’s bittersweet to step away, we are thrilled to pass the baton to the Capitol Centre. Their dedication and vision for our community will ensure that this event continues to grow and thrive for years to come."

“We are looking forward to taking on this event,” said Katina Connolly, executive director of the Capitol Centre in January. “Our team is already starting to connect with past sponsors and community partners, but if anyone is looking to get involved this year, don’t hesitate to reach out early. We’re excited to get the ball rolling on the biggest party of the year!”

The Trews have enjoyed a decades-long career as Canadian rock favourites, delighting their fans — known as the Trewbadours — from coast to coast and abroad. With a discography that boasts hits such as "Not Ready to Go," "Fleeting Trust," "So She's Leaving," and "Hold Me In Your Arms," Bay Block Party-goers are sure to be singing along on Main Street come August.

On June 6, 2024, on the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the band performed one of its most beloved tunes, "Highway of Heroes," at the ceremony commemorating the landing in Normandy, France (see video below).
