Based on the overwhelming success of last years historic Pride March, North Bay organizers are returning with a bigger line-up of events, spread out over more days.
The event runs from July 18 through to July 21.
"We have some great events for everyone. I am so proud of what we are doing in this community," said committee co-chair Lucie St. John.
It all gets underway Wednesday, July 18th with a flag raising ceremony at City Hall, followed by two days of social events leading up to the march.
"Saturday, July 21st will be the march from City Hall, through the downtown to the waterfront for the North Bay and District Labour Council Pride Unity Picnic. The day wraps up with a dance on the Chief Commanda," said Jason Maclennan, Media Relations for North Bay Pride.
The president of the North Bay and District Labour Council, Henri Giroux says the Labour Council is proud to once again host the picnic.
"Unions in Canada have built into their constitutions, by-laws, and policies, the importance of equality improvements in the workplace. All workers deserve dignity and respect. Labour is happy to be a part of North Bay Pride."
Planning began last September, with support from the business community.
"We also got sponsorship this year by the Ontario Lottery Corporation, and support from the city. We brought a lot of people to North Bay. We actually had people from Toronto and surrounding areas come last year. The estimated attendance last year was around 3,000. We're hoping to get around 4,000 this year," said, Maclennan.
Committee co-chair Colleen McGinn was in awe of last years success.
"Now that we know there are all these supportive businesses and people in the area, we know that we can make Pride 2018 celebration even bigger and better".
Maclennan says there is still more work to be done when it comes to acceptance.
"The march is important because we recognize that North Bay and area still struggles somewhat as an LGBTQ2+ area. But we also recognize after last year that we have made progress in many areas, so we want to celebrate that this year. We have to make a statement that we're not going anywhere. We are part of the community, and we work beside you and we work with you."
