Lieutenant Governor of Ontario to visit North Bay Thursday

The Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario is visiting North Bay.

The Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will officially visit North Bay tomorrow and Friday.

She will meet with municipal and Indigenous leaders, youth, seniors, and members of the Canadian Armed Forces and community organizations.

The Lieutenant Governor will invest Madame Mathilde Gravelle Bazinet, CM, into the Order of Canada at the request of the Governor General. The Order of Canada is one of our country’s highest honours. It recognizes people across all sectors of society who have made extraordinary and sustained contributions to Canada.

Bazinet was recognized "for her decades of service and contributions to health care, justice and education."

She played a crucial role in the Nipissing Serenity Hospice project in North Bay.

Dumont is the 30th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. The first Francophone to hold the office, she was appointed following a long and distinguished career in education.

The Lieutenant Governor will meet with Mayor Peter Chirico at City Hall at 9 Thursday morning before touring the nursing simulation lab, visit the Ceremony Room, and meet with seniors at Canadore at 10. During the afternoon she will meet with the Command Team and tour 22 Wing North Bay as 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Friday morning the Lieutenant Governor will visit OUTLoud North Bay, which supports the health and wellbeing of the 2SLGBTQA+ youth and allies of North Bay and surrounding communities.

At 10 she will meet with Nipissing First Nation Chief Scott McLeod and council members. Her Honour will visit Nbisiing Secondary School and observe an Indigenous language class.

At 1:30 the Lieutenant Governor will invest Madame Mathilde Gravelle Bazinet as a Member of the Order of Canada at the request of the Governor General at Nipissing Serenity Hospice.
