Man arrested and charged with impaired after police conduct traffic stop.

On April 26, shortly before 9 p.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Highway 17, West Nipissing.

While speaking with the driver, police observed open liquor in the vehicle and it was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol. The driver was arrested for impaired driving, and then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Billy Johanson, 52, from Dokis First Nation, was charged with, operation while impaired, and driving a vehicle with an open container of liquor.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 6, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
