Environment Canada says North Bay is under a severe thunderstorm watch for around 10:30 this morning.
Meanwhile,a severe thunderstorm warning is issued for:
- West Nipissing - French River
- Greater Sudbury and vicinity
Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain.
This line of severe thunderstorms is located from near Blue Jay Creek Provincial Park to Little Trout Lake, moving southeast at 60 km/h.
There is a hazard:of 90 km/h wind gusts.
Locations impacted include:
Tobermory, Killarney, Blue Jay Creek Provincial Park, Fathom Five National Marine Park, Bruce Peninsula National Park, Killarney Provincial Park, French River and Grundy Lake Provincial Park.
In the Bayfield Inlet - Dunchurch vicinity, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts and heavy rain.
This line of severe thunderstorms is located from near Tobermory to Alban, moving east at 60 km/h.
Hazard: 120 km/h wind gusts.
Locations impacted include:
Parry Sound, Britt, Bayfield Inlet, Sturgeon Bay Provincial Park, Magnetawan River Provincial Park, Killbear Park, Noganosh Lake Provincial Park, Killbear Provincial Park, The Massasauga Provincial Park, Oastler Lake Provincial Park and McKellar.
Risk of tornados:
A severe thunderstorm watch is issued for:
- Burk's Falls - Bayfield Inlet
- Deep River - Whitney - Eastern Algonquin Park
- Huntsville - Baysville,
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain.
Severe thunderstorms are possible this morning and this afternoon as a cold front approaches from the west.
Hazards:
- Wind gusts near 100 km/h.
- Torrential downpours giving 25 to 50 mm of rain in an hour or less.
- The risk of tornadoes.
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops.
