Cops watch drug deal go down, then swoop

The North Bay Police Street Crime Unit make made an arrest, and seized $31,000 in drugs yesterday after watching a drug transaction yesterday.

It was part of an ongoing drug investigation.

At 5:30 Tuesday afternoon, Street Crime Unit officers watched a drug deal take place in a Fisher Street parking lot. As the accused was getting back into his car, he was arrested.

Officers tried to stop a second vehicle however it eluded officers by speeding southbound on Highway 11.   

Police say the lone occupant of the fleeing vehicle was identified, however, police did not give chase due to the risk to public safety.

The accused was taken to North Bay Police Service headquarters, where he was processed and further searches were conducted. Police seized the vehicle he was driving and efforts to find the second suspect continue.

Searches by police resulted in the seizure of:

  • A silver 2014 Kia Sorento
  • 30.7 grams of Fentanyl
  • 120.4 grams of cocaine
  • 89.8 grams of crystal meth
  • 683 methamphetamine pills
  • 28 Percocet pills
  • 16 - N-100 Morphine pills
  • 34 - 12mg Hydromorphone pills
  • $90 in cash
  • A digital scale  

The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $31,315.

The accused in this matter is:

Kristopher Lee Burton, 46, of North Bay, is charged with:

  • Six counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Trafficking a Schedule 1 substance
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Burton was held for a bail hearing.
