City gives the green light for more public art on traffic boxes

The City of North Bay will display another 20 creations from artists and designers on traffic boxes in several new locations following a call for submissions from the Public Art Advisory Committee for its 2021 Digital Traffic Box Initiative.

In 2020, 13 pieces of artwork were added to traffic boxes located in the downtown core. This year's initiative will see the project's reach expand with digital image wraps added to traffic control enclosures in various locations of the city, including Lakeshore Drive, Algonquin Avenue, Trout Lake Road and Cassells Street. The wraps will be installed this fall.

This initiative's goal is to strengthen the prominence of public art within high pedestrian traffic areas and provide an opportunity to recognize local and regional artists.

The 20 artists whose submissions were chosen will each receive a $200 honorarium for their digitally created images, high-quality photographs or scans of original artwork.
