Seamont heading to Oswego State By BayToday.ca Staff BayToday.ca Saturday, July 31, 2010 North Bay’s Melissa Seamont will bring her smoothing skating hockey skills south of the border next season as she has accepted an NCAA scholarship at Oswego State University.
Last season, the 1992 birth year forward played for the Sudbury Midget AA Lady Wolves where she scored 15 goals and added 20 assists totaling 35 points in 56 regular season games. Seamont also played a handful of games with the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears high school hockey team last season as well.
“I am very excited to be playing NCAA division III hockey for the (Oswego State) Lakers,” said Seamont about joining the ECAC West team located in Oswego, New York.
Seamont says the New York state school first scouted her at a National Aboriginal hockey tournament in Ottawa in the spring of 2009. She believes that her Scouting Video done by Dawstar Video Scouting Services gave her game some additional promotion that helped her get noticed by NCAA schools.
“The video I am sure played a part in getting seen and looked at throughout the hockey circles,” said Seamont.
Seamont, who has been on the ice 3 or 4 times a week along with playing ball hockey during the off-season, credits her parents for helping her reach this high level of hockey.
“I'd like to thank my Mom and Dad for all their hard work and dedication and money spent helping me get to where I am today. Special thanks to my Dad for pushing me and helping me, be the hockey player I am today.”
While playing hockey Seamont will be studying for her Bachelor of Education.
