Editor's note: The author writes in response to LETTER: Reader laments East Ferris decision not to fly Pride flag
-----
Good morning, having just read Kim Berube's letter, I must say, as a senior I have seen many changes in our cultural habits and living styles over many, many years. And, having lived in many cities in our country, I have seen these kinds of expressions of non-support and outright hate or indifference to many things.
The thing that makes us tolerant of many different religions and groups is we are Canadians who live and believe in our Charter of Rights.
We fly many flags for different reasons, whether for sports, our country or an organization. So, to refuse a flag from a large group like the LGBT2S IS AN INSULT, A SHOW OF DISCRIMINATION, OF NOT UNDERSTANDING A WAY OF LIFE, AND IN SOME CASES, HATE.
That is something that cannot be denied by anyone. Put aside private beliefs and show your compassionate side in the belief that all Canadians have the right to live and be recognized.
A very sad situation indeed.
